SHEAR BLADES – The blades of a machine designed to cut metal by sliding relative to each other in a direction parallel to their plane of contact.

SHEETER KNIVES – Used to cut raw material fabric into material suitable for other manufactured products.

SLICER KNIVES – A tool used to cut a thin, flat piece of wood from a flinch.

SPIRAL KNIVES – Blades that are arranged radically in a cylindrical cutter to produce a smooth surface along a board’s length.

SPUR KNIVES – A blade used to remove protrusions from wooden braces or posts. A tool used to provide a straight edge on a rotary lathe.

STAVE BLADE – Used for cutting fodder for animals.

STRAIGHT EDGE – A tool which accurately locates the shortest distance between two points, which is used for drawing, cutting or measuring the straightness of lines.
